What is ISO Certification?
ISOs (or international standards) are woven into our lives as a trusted symbol of quality. You come into contact with ISO standards on a daily basis without even realizing it. Hundreds of signs and symbols cross language barriers to communicate important messages, from credit card numbers to the stop signs in the road.1
ISO certification is a formal recognition that a company meets specific international standards set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for quality management and other areas. It signifies that the organization has undergone rigorous audits to ensure its processes and systems align with these globally recognized standards, promoting efficiency and customer satisfaction. 1
“ISO, the International Organization for Standardization, brings global experts together to agree on the best way of doing things – for anything from making a product to managing a process. As one of the oldest non-governmental international organizations, ISO has enabled trade and cooperation between people and companies the world over since 1946. The International Standards published by ISO serve to make lives easier, safer and better.
In London, in 1946, 65 delegates from 25 countries meet to discuss the future of International Standardization. In 1947, ISO officially comes into existence with 67 technical committees (groups of experts focusing on a specific subject).”2
Having become ISO certified, the Testrods division of Regal Packaging Services has gained a similar level of international recognition by meeting the standards that are important to the food, pharmaceutical and textile industries. It’s a commitment to those standards that can be recognized by our constituency as well as new customers, and our own company.1
Having defined our success and key activities, the next step towards ISO certification meant documenting our systems and procedures that deliver these. An ISO consultant examined our organization’s existing procedures and helped us identify where we conform to the ISO standard. 1
Our manual system documentation is an ongoing, important step. Even more important, however, is ensuring its use is embedded throughout the company and supported by senior management. 1
Employee development and training reinforces the fundamental principles of ISO standards. The return on investing in our employees’ training is ongoing efficiency, continual improvement of high-quality systems, procedures and products, as well as greater profitability. 1
With key processes in place and staff trained to follow these consistently, we undergo an annual, 3rd party audit to insure that are systems, processes, procedures and protocol are documented, managed and successful.1
Our ISO auditor submits our report to the third-party certifying body they believe is the most suitable. The audit provides an objective view of whether our business conforms to the ISO standard. Once confirmed as being ISO standard compliant, we are then presented with the ISO certificate. We can then promote that we have gained international recognition to our target market.
